Hacksasaur 0 Posted January 21, 2019 Hello! I was delighted when I found out that this game was added to the PC "Xbox Game Pass" list of games. After playing the game for an hour or so, I saved and quit the game. However, when I went to load that save (or any other save for that matter), I found that none of them would load properly! I would go into a loading screen for about 5 to 10 seconds, and then I would find myself back on the main menu! After doing a bit of reading, I thought that perhaps the bug was Windows Defender's fault. See here: https://steamcommunity.com/app/320240/discussions/1/1746720717344903559/ The suggested fix was to allow the app to bypass Controlled Folder Access, but because I have the Game Pass version of the game, I do not have permission to alter the files of the game! Thanks for any help in the matter, recovery of the save file itself is not required, but I would like to be able to save and load the game in the future! Stronghammer22 0 Posted January 21, 2019 Same. Here is a video showing what happens when you try to load: After this occurred I downloaded the game on Xbox One, synced my save then tried to load there. Same deal.
Lee 22 Posted January 21, 2019 Hi there, We're sorry to hear you're experiencing this issue. The first thing we'd suggest trying if you have an XBox One, is the following: 1 - Boot the game on XBox One and start a new game as Arthur 2 - Complete the prologue and load into the tunnels 3 - Save and exit to main menu 4 - Check if you're able to load that save game (note your results down) 5 - Boot the game on PC and load the same save game 6 - Check if you're able to load that save game (note your results down) 7 - On PC, start a new game as Arthur 8 - Complete the prologue and load into the tunnels 9 - Save and exit to main menu 10 - Check if you're able to load that save game (note your results down) If the issue is occurring with new games created on Xbox One, then there is something very odd happening here. If the issue is only occurring with save games that were created or saved on PC, then you should read the information below: It's possible anti-virus or other programs running on your PC may be blocking the game from saving. We've had similar reports in the past and it was usually a third-party application such as Comodo Internet Security, BitDefender or other similar programs. If you add We Happy Few to the exceptions list of BitDefender or Windows Firewall, does that correct the problem? If that doesn't work, we'd suggest reviewing what programs running in the background may be causing this. Another thing you can try is running the game as Administrator and in Windows 7 Compatibility Mode. You can set these by Right-Clicking the game shortcut and opening Properties > Compatibility If that doesn't work, please try the following: 1 - From your Windows desktop, press the Windows key + R together. 2 - Type in \Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Local\Packages\CompulsionGamesInc.WeHappyFew_eae46zy90r9xg\LocalState\My Games and press Enter 3 - Right-click the folder called 'We Happy Few' 4 - Goto Properties > Security tab > Edit (change permissions) 5 - For your user account, un-check 'Deny' on everything This should ensure the game has read/write access to the save folder. If the folder structure doesn't exist yet, create it and then follow step 3 onward. You should also confirm that the folder '\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Local\Packages\CompulsionGamesInc.WeHappyFew_eae46zy90r9xg\LocalState\My Games' is located on the same drive that the game is installed. For example, if the game is installed on the C drive, ensure your My Games folder is also located on the C drive. Some users with partitioned drives have had similar issues when these folders were not on the same drive. I hope this helps. Cheers, Lee
Hacksasaur 0 Posted January 21, 2019 Thanks for the quick reply Lee! I do not have the game installed on Xbox One, nor any saves from Xbox. As I had stated in the original post I am unable to alter the game's files in any shape or form. This includes changing the file properties to read/write (which I did notice that the folder "We Happy Few" was set to read only). I also have all permissions for my user account and I still cannot alter any files. I believe this is caused by the fact that the game is from the Game Pass, and if you could copy the files, you could essentially pirate the game once your subscription ran out. So the "We Happy Few" folder located in "C:\Users\Hacksasaur\AppData\Local\Packages\CompulsionGamesInc.WeHappyFew_eae46zy90r9xg\LocalState\My Games\We Happy Few" is stuck on "read only" The install for the game is located on my "D:" drive and I cannot move the "My Games" folder to my "D:" drive. I can not add the application as an exception through Windows Defender because I also need permission to do those as well. We Happy Few is allowed through my firewall. Running the game in windows 7 compatibility mode did not solve the issue either (though that was one of the only things I could do without permission). Thanks again, and I look forward to your response.
Lee 22 Posted January 22, 2019 Thanks for the information. This is a known bug where in very rare cases games are not being saved correctly, which prevents saves from that slot being loaded. We're currently looking into what's causing this and are planning to address it in a future patch. Do you know if you loaded any save games before the issue started occurring, or was the first time the issue occurred when you attempted to load a save game in that playthrough for the first time? Unfortunately we don't have a workaround yet which will allow you to load the affected save files. In the meantime, we would suggest doing the following: 1 - Start a new game in another slot 2 - Complete Arthur's prologue in City Hall 3 - Once you load into the tunnels, save your game 4 - Quit to main menu and check if you can load the save If you can load this save then you will be able to use the new playthrough to progress. Hacksasaur 0 Posted January 23, 2019 Thanks Lee! I did not play the game before my issue a few days ago, it was a fresh install. And oddly enough, when I started a new game and got to the tunnels, I saved and was able to load that save again, even after restarting the game. The old save still cannot be used (which is fine). Was there a new patch that fixed the issue or was I screwed the moment I started the game for the first time? Either way thanks for the info!

There has been no patch, it seems the issue simply didn't trigger on the new playthrough. It's possible playing the game immediately after a fresh install may have something to do with it, but we can't confirm that just yet. We'll be using that information to help us narrow the issue down though. Cheers, Lee
X0holNick 1 Posted June 25, 2020 Yeah there is still similar bugs, just downloaded last week off game pass only on my pc and the save loads in for like 2 seconds and than completely crashes. I've tried all suggestions, i have even been able to load saves in from the tunnel but than play on and my next save crashes. I'm sick of restarting this game seems awesome but for me its currently unplayable and i have to give up until I can save.

It’ll start the loading process, but keeps going back to the “press enter to begin” no matter how many times i press enter. I’m playing the pc game pass version. Cheers, Lee Why is this bug still happening in 2021? I literally just started playing yesterday on Xbox Game Pass on PC, got Arthur to the tunnels, slept, went up the ladder, decided to save and quit, and today the save doesn't load.
